Amelia asked:

As you might have guessed, I have anxiety and eating disorders. I’d imagine that I’m burning calories while I have a panic attack. My heart goes racing and my breathing gets heavy. What do you think? Am I burning any calories?

Your metabolic rate might be slightly increased because of that internal physical exertion, so yes I suppose you could be burning calories.

Well you’re pretty much ALWAYS burning calories so technically yes, you are. But are you burning more than you would had you just been sitting/standing there? Probably, yes.

i would be more worried about having controlling the rapid heart rate than whether you burn calories or not.

I would think you are burning some calories, but it can’t be very much. Unless you are covered with sweat after a panic attack chances are that any extra calories burned are minimal.
